The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City was ablaze with star power as Hollywood’s brightest and biggest names descended upon the venue for the annual Met Gala. This year, the event took on a theme of “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story, with attendees dazzling in interpretations of this theme.
Co-chaired by Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, and Bad Bunny, the gala saw attendees stepping out in extravagant floral prints, elaborate headpieces, and vintage dresses, transforming the red carpet into a blooming garden of style.
The Met Gala, a tradition since 1948, not only celebrates fashion but also serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, raising millions of dollars annually. This year's event aligns with the institute's spring 2024 exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," which will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2. The exhibition aims to reignite the sensory experience of fashion through the Museum's collection.
Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, expressed his hope that the exhibition would reignite the sensory appreciation of fashion, highlighting its emotional and memory-evoking nature, particularly its connection to the body.
From Cardi B’s dramatic black gown that nearly spanned the width of the museum steps to Zendaya’s two surprising looks, the Met Gala 2024 showcased the creativity and boldness of fashion in a truly unforgettable evening.
