The Nollywood film industry continues its remarkable run with the latest release, "Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti," achieving a massive opening. This biopic has not only topped the box office for the weekend but has also set a new record for the biggest opening for a biographical film in Nigeria.
"Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti," a FilmOne Entertainment production starring Kehinde Bankole and Joke Silva, raked in an impressive 32 million naira at the box office.
This success marks the 11th weekend out of 21 weekends in 2024 that a Nollywood movie has dominated the box office, showcasing the industry's continued rise.
To put this in perspective, Nollywood films led the box office for 14 weekends out of 52 last year. This was already a significant improvement from 2022, which saw Nollywood movies topping the box office for only 9 weeks out of the year.
The success of "Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti" highlights the growing appeal and quality of Nollywood films. The biopic, which delves into the life of the renowned Nigerian women's rights activist, has captivated audiences and continues to show strong performance in cinemas.
