The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria has issued a statement regarding the recent controversy surrounding a Chinese supermarket located at the Royal Choice Estate, Airport Road, Abuja.

The supermarket came under scrutiny after a video surfaced on social media last Sunday, showing officials denying entry to Nigerian nationals.

In a clarifying response, the Chamber outlined that the Royal Choice Estate is not solely a supermarket as previously reported. Instead, it encompasses a combination of an office complex and residential apartments.

The Chamber, which operates within the estate, highlighted that the supermarket is situated within the residential section and operates independently of the Chamber's activities.

The statement further detailed that the residential segment of the estate is home to private residents who adhere to established security measures for admitting guests. It refuted claims of discriminatory practices, asserting that no individual was barred from accessing the estate or the supermarket based on nationality.

Regret was expressed over a misunderstanding that occurred at the estate's entrance, involving security staff and a patron. The Chamber emphasized that this incident does not represent the official stance of either the estate's management or the Chamber itself.

Reaffirming its dedication to fostering mutual respect and economic collaboration, the China General Chamber of Commerce invited the public to visit and experience the estate's inclusive environment firsthand.

In a subsequent development, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) took action by sealing the supermarket. FCCPC officials conducted an investigation, questioning the Nigerian employees before closing the establishment.

This decisive move has been met with approval from the Nigerian public, prompting discussions on the nature of such incidents occurring within the nation.
