BREAKING: Cubana Chief Priest Pleads Not Guilty to Naira Abuse Charges, Granted ₦10m Bail [Video]

Popular Instagram personality Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, has pleaded not guilty to charges of alleged naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Appearing before Justice Kehinde Ogundare at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Cubana Chief Priest denied the three-count charge leveled against him, which accused him of abusing the naira at a social event, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Justice Ogundare granted him bail in the sum of ₦10 million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, who must be employed by the federal or state government at not less than grade level 16, are required to possess landed property, verified by the court.

Additionally, Cubana Chief Priest is to submit his travel passport to the court and must perfect his bail conditions within seven days. In the interim, he was released to his lawyer with an undertaking to produce him when required, failing which he will be remanded in a correctional facility.

The charges against Cubana Chief Priest alleged that he tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during various social events. The events in question occurred in 2020 and 2024, with one incident taking place at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Cubana Chief Priest's legal team informed the court of their intention to challenge the jurisdiction of the court to hear the charges. The case has been adjourned till May 2nd for this purpose.

This development comes shortly after the EFCC arraigned controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, resulting in a six-month jail sentence for Bobrisky.
