Nollywood Actor Adunni Ade Faces Backlash After Speaking Yoruba Upon Request On Channels TV

Nollywood Actor Adunni Ade Faces Backlash After Speaking Yoruba Upon Request On Channels TV

Adunni Ade, the talented Nollywood actress, has finally yielded to the request of her by the host of "Conversation with Adunni Ade" on Channels TV Morning Brief on Wednesday.

The Nollywood Actress is known for her skills in speaking impeccable English, however decided to yield to the host's request.

She has therefore demonstrated her ability to speak the Yoruba language with fluency.  However her response to the host has triggered severe battering by her fans as the development seem not to have gone down well with her fans as some are already propagating a negative narrative about her.

The actress has cried out:

"These are the issues. This is one major reason why I avoid interviews. Everything I say is always twisted and interpreted negatively.

I said people asking me randomly (most times rudely) erks my nerves. This question had nothing to do with me been featured in Yoruba films. The h@te I receive from a lot is quite alarming. Why  put out a false narrative?

Please note, I am not dragging position, title, culture, nationality or language with anyone. I’m just living my life trying to be the best being and mother to my children".

Anyone who comes in contact with me know I’d rather communicate in Yoruba but when in professional settings, I’d prefer to speak in English. Y’all need to hear how some would speak to me so rudely and nonchalantly all in the name of speaking Yoruba. Why?

Thank you

@iamadunniade

for explaining the context. But rather than 'ẹ speak Yorùbá jọ (please speak Yorùbá)' or 'ẹ dẹ sọ Yorùbá (why not speak Yorùbá)', I think the real disrespectful comment is 'you really don't look like what you sound like, when I hear someone speaking

I see your point here, the disrespectful ones will go as far as verbally disrespecting me all in the name of speaking Yoruba. When they say I don’t look like what I sound like, it’s always with a shock.

There will always be a Judas among the twelve. Every cloud has a silver lining; focus more on the majority and let their love overshadow the few badly behaved fans.

Adunni, im your fan and i enjoy your craft but you outdid yourself with some words used in the interview… you said “ on the flip-side they wanna “claim” you “.. ain’t you Yoruba?? Yorubas enjoy conversing in their dialect because it allows them to be more expressive..

You’re doubling down. Just apologize and move on. What you said about Yoruba language is de-meaning. Like people keeps reminding you that, you made your money and fame with this same Yoruba language and culture. So nothing should ever warrant or tempt you to denigrate the great…

“It hurts my nerves” “let’s put the other languages aside”… That so unnecessary. People from other parts of the country are always incorporating their local language into English conversations. Same applies to SA & Ghanaians.

Yet, you're pandering to those who make speaking…

It's just a nonchalant statement from someone like you on national TV. If we don't respect our language, how would we preserve our culture?  Yoruba is our language; Yoruba is our culture.

If you can't respond logically to questions when interviewed, do yourself a favor and KEEP…

You display great rudeness by seeking glory through the disparagement of the Yoruba language. Statements like "Speaking Yoruba is draining" and "They (the Yorubas) want to claim me when it's convenient" are far from complimentary.

Madam, what you said in the interview isn’t twisted. In your own words, speaking “Yoruba irks your nerves,” and your body language when you said that didn’t help either.

This is what a false identity looks like. What an embarrassment to herself. People in diaspora who have an ancestral connection to Yorubaland are bending over backwards to learn Yoruba, but you have this self unaware oyibo wannabe denigrating the powerful language that is Yoruba.…

Yes, it's true. Adunni Ade is right. "They want to claim you when it's beneficial"

Or when it's cool to claim your success, Like Burna, Davido etc.

Everyone knows how they treat this lady from time to time.
