A remarkable feat unfolded in Lagos over the weekend as Nigerian swimming coach Akinrodoye Dare, affectionately known as Coach Dreh, took on the daunting challenge of swimming the entire 11.8 kilometers of the Third Mainland Bridge.

Coach Dreh's remarkable swim, completed in a swift two hours and thirty-three minutes, was more than just a physical accomplishment; it was a powerful statement aimed at shedding light on the crucial issue of mental health, particularly addressing issues of suicide and depression.

In a compelling video shared on X by #MeetPrinceAhmad, Coach Dreh passionately underscored the importance of mental health awareness and urged individuals facing challenges to seek support. 

He said, “I’m going to be swimming the entire length of the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge to raise awareness and sensitise the public on mental health, suicide, and depression.

“It is 11.8km from Mainland Oworonshoki to Island Adeniji Adele.

“My years of experience in the aquatic realm is over a decade, and swimming for me means I can do anything and become anything I want with it.

“Mental health is a cause I’m passionate about, and life can be very tough, and I think it’s okay to ask for help. Your life can change positively within the blink of an eye; stay alive to witness it.”

Coach Dreh's inspiring endeavor serves as a poignant reminder that seeking support and fostering open dialogue about mental health can lead to profound positive changes in individuals and communities alike.
