After the likes of Burna Boy and Wizkid dumped Afrobeats, Davido took the high road and declared for the genre.

In a recent interview with Billboard's Nadine Graham, David Adeleke, known as Davido, confidently proclaimed himself as the global leader of the Afrobeats genre. Interrupting the interviewer who referred to him as the leader of Afrobeats in the United States, Davido asserted that he is leading "everywhere."

As the self-proclaimed global leader of Afrobeats, Davido expressed his desire for people to anticipate "Just good music," highlighting the universal appeal of his sound by noting that even people in jail have heard his music.

Davido also shared insights into his current projects, revealing that he is working on two albums. One album is tailored for the African audience, while the other is aimed at the American audience, showcasing his commitment to bridging cultural gaps through his music.

Reflecting on his favorite collaboration, Davido mentioned '2 AM' with Casanova and Tory Lanez. He praised the record for its ability to blend Canadian, Nigerian, and American cultures, emphasizing the global reach of his music.

In a recent development, Wizkid has joined Burna Boy in clarifying his genre, asserting that he is not an Afrobeats artist. Wizkid made this declaration on his Instagram story, where he announced the completion of his next album and cautioned fans not to expect an Afrobeats version of him on the project. He went further to advise fans of Afrobeats against downloading his new album.

This statement from Wizkid echoes Burna Boy's earlier clarification in a July 2022 interview on the Million Dollar Worth of Game podcast. Burna Boy emphasized that his music genre should be referred to as Afrofusion, not Afrobeats, as commonly assumed. Burna Boy argued that just because his music originated in Africa does not automatically categorize it as Afrobeats.
