Netizens Accuses Laycon Of Clout Chasing Over His Tweet On Using Shodeinde Hostel's Toilet Water To Soak Garri

Olamilekan "Laycon" Agbeleshe, a Nigerian musician, rapper, and former reality TV personality, has sparked a trending discussion on X with his recent tweet. Known for his sometimes controversial statements, Laycon has once again found himself at the center of attention.

This time, Laycon shared a post on his official X handle detailing his personal struggles and hardships. In a candid revelation, he described one of the lowest moments in his life when he resorted to using water from the toilet tap to soak garri. Laycon further revealed that he was in tears while consuming the garri.

The tweet has stirred reactions among netizens, with some accusing Laycon of seeking attention or chasing clout. 

Laycon wrote: "One of my lowest lows was using shodeinde hostel toilet water to soak garri in 2013. I was alone in my wing that weekend, and I was starving. I wasn’t hungry o, I was starving. So I soaked Garri with no sugar and used toilet tap water to drink it… as I Dey soak the garri, water dey commot for my eyes."

Following Laycon's revelation about his past struggles, some internet users launched a barrage of criticism against him, accusing him of seeking attention. One user, @JOGZ, a former student of UNILAG, directly responded to Laycon's tweet, suggesting that Laycon's story was exaggerated.

@JOGZ questioned the accuracy of Laycon's account, stating that he couldn't fathom using water from his own hostel, Jaja, which, according to him, was not even as substandard as the infamous Shodehinde hostel. He went further to assert that Shodehinde was considered the worst hostel at the time, and it was inconceivable for anyone to resort to using its toilet water to soak garri.

His reply goes: "This thing carry me go where I no know this early morning cos I know as our hostels be that year, we wey dey Jaja sef wouldn’t dare using its toilet water let alone Shodeinde.

"In all, I thank God for where you are today now."

Other users berated him for chasing clout. One particular user, @Imaging33 said: "I understand that twitterNg  has normalised clout so much but LYCON making this statement for that same clout is the lowest of low.  Other countries especially the Europeans will not see us a human being when they see this. We need to stop this clouting and act accordingly."
