WhatsApp is introducing an innovative method for conducting voice chats within large groups

WhatsApp is set to introduce an innovative voice chat feature in the upcoming weeks, aiming to provide a less disruptive means of engaging in voice calls within large groups.

While the feature had been previously identified during its beta phase, WhatsApp has now officially confirmed its impending release.

In contrast to the conventional method of automatically ringing participants when a voice chat initiates, the new feature adopts a more discreet approach.

Group members will receive a push notification and encounter an in-chat bubble, allowing them to seamlessly tap and join the voice chat.

During an ongoing voice chat, call controls will be conveniently accessible from the top of the chat interface, ensuring they do not obstruct a participant's ability to simultaneously send text messages.

Similar to individual WhatsApp messages, these voice chats boast end-to-end encryption and accommodate up to 32 participants.

The rollout of voice chats will commence on both iOS and Android platforms in the coming weeks. Initially, the feature will be introduced in larger group chats, accommodating between 33 and 128 participants, as outlined on WhatsApp's dedicated page.

This phased approach means that not everyone within a given group will have immediate access to join a voice chat, with smaller groups of fewer than 33 users presumably not prioritized due to the availability of WhatsApp's existing group voice call feature.
