EPL: Harry Redknapp praises Arsenal defender, comparing him to Rio Ferdinand.

Harry Redknapp, the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has recently praised Arsenal defender William Saliba, comparing him to a young Rio Ferdinand. 

Redknapp commended the 22-year-old for his impressive performance against Manchester City, which contributed to Arsenal's 1-0 victory at Emirates Stadium.

“I thought Saliba was a different class against [Manchester] City. He man-marked [Erling] Haaland for a lot of the game and honestly, the Norwegian barely had a kick,”He told Premier League Odd.

“He’s got a bit of everything in his game; he is what I would call a “Rolls-Royce” of a defender. He actually reminds me a bit of Rio when I had him at West Ham, just a class act.”

William Saliba, a highly promising young defender, joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in 2019. However, due to the stiff competition for playing time at Arsenal, the decision was made to loan him out to various clubs in order to gain more experience and regular game time.

Saliba's first loan spell took him back to his former club, Saint-Etienne, where he had initially made a name for himself. 

This move allowed him to continue his development in a familiar environment and further showcase his abilities. 

During his time at Saint-Etienne, Saliba impressed with his solid defensive performances, displaying maturity beyond his years and demonstrating his potential as a top-class defender.

Following his successful loan spell at Saint-Etienne, Saliba was then sent on loan to Nice, a club in Ligue 1. This move provided him with the opportunity to test himself in a different team and adapt to a new playing style. 

Despite facing some challenges, Saliba continued to display his defensive prowess and versatility by adapting to different tactical systems. He showcased his ability to read the game, make crucial interceptions, and maintain composure under pressure.

After his loan spell at Nice, Saliba was loaned out once again, this time to Marseille. This move allowed him to experience playing for one of the biggest clubs in France and compete in European competitions. 

Saliba continued to impress with his strong defensive performances, proving himself capable of handling the demands of playing at a higher level. His ability to anticipate opponents' moves and make timely tackles made him a valuable asset to the team.

Throughout his loan spells, Saliba has consistently shown his potential as a top-class defender. His performances have caught the attention of many clubs and scouts, making him a highly sought-after talent. 

With each loan spell, Saliba has gained valuable experience, developed his skills, and matured as a player. These experiences have prepared him for a successful return to Arsenal, where he can contribute to the team's defensive solidity and fulfill his potential as a future star in football.
