On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended the singer Aniji Shedrack Chidubem, also known as Sanij-D, on charges of allegedly defrauding a British national, Susan Mclean, of £9,300. The Lagos-based artist was also accused of defrauding an American, Diana Rosado Gonzalax, of $2,000.
Sanij-D's arrest took place in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following credible intelligence concerning the activities of an internet fraudsters syndicate.
The EFCC reported that the singer, renowned for hits such as "Profesy" and "Katalina," purportedly engaged in impersonation by posing as a marine engineer named Christopher Rossi, who is involved in the repair of boats and pipelines in Singapore.
“He used Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram applications with foreign phone numbers as his fraudulent means of perpetrating and defrauding his victims,” EFCC alleged.
The anti-graft agency said Sanij-D will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded.
