In a recent development, the Abia State Police Command has successfully apprehended multiple suspects involved in various criminal activities. The Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, delegated the announcement of these arrests to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka.
ASP Chinaka revealed that one of the suspects, Francis Williams, was a former police officer who had been dismissed from the force. Williams was apprehended by officers from the Ndiegoro Divisional Police headquarters on September 11, 2023. His arrest took place while he was in the act of attempting to steal an electricity transformer that belonged to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in Aba.
The Abia State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state's residents. With these recent arrests, they have demonstrated their dedication to combating criminal activities and bringing perpetrators to justice. The Command will continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order in Abia State, the PPRO added.
The Police statement also revealed that a 34-year-old officer has been dismissed from the police force after being caught in possession of fake credentials. The officer was apprehended while dressed in a Police camouflage attire and wearing a fez cap. It was discovered that he was also carrying a fake warrant card. The suspect has since been charged and will face legal consequences for his actions.
In another incident, a 35-year-old man named Chukwuemeka London was arrested on September 20, 2023, for unlawfully possessing firearms. The arrest came after a report was filed against London at the Ugwunagbo Police Station. Upon investigation, authorities were able to recover one locally made long single-barrel gun and one locally made short single-barrel gun from London.
These incidents highlight the commitment of the police force in ensuring the safety and security of the public. The police will continue to take swift action against individuals who engage in illegal activities and pose a threat to society.
The Abia Police have reported that their detectives conducted a raid at Ehere Secondary School in Aba based on credible intelligence. The raid targeted a suspected criminal hideout, resulting in the arrest of several individuals.
The suspects apprehended during the operation include Kelechi Kalu (25 years old, male), Nnanna Nwogu (35 years old, male), Chika Ugochukwu (33 years old, male), Ndubuisi Chikere (38 years old, male), Check Bowel (45 years old, male), Ugochukwu Monday (20 years old, male), Grace Chika (27 years old, female), and Owe Mary (20 years old, female).
The police also seized a significant amount of suspected Indian hemp, as well as various quantities of Tramadol tablets, Tiazopam tablets, Refnor tablets, and Simnor tablets from the suspects.
“The suspects have been charged to court after a thorough investigation and were remanded accordingly”, the statement added.
In a related development, the Command also reported that on September 24, 2023, the Counter-Terrorist Unit intercepted a tricycle carrying five male individuals. The occupants were identified as Chinedu Ukachukwu (23 years old), Chibueze Nwokocha (25 years old), Steve Okafor (17 years old), Uche Awa (23 years old), and Chisom Chijioke (17 years old).
During a search of the tricycle, the police discovered a locally fabricated single-barrel shotgun that had been cut to size. The weapon was loaded with live cartridges.
The case is currently being investigated by the Monitoring Unit in Umuahia, according to a statement released by the Abia Police Command.
