The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) has rejected Peter Obi's claim that President Bola Tinubu was required to secure 25% of the votes from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to win the February 25th election.

Justice Haruna Tsammani emphasized that residents of the FCT do not possess any special privilege, rendering such claims untenable.

This decision came in response to Obi's petition, which contested the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the recent presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Controversy has arisen over the legality of Tinubu's victory in the presidential election due to his alleged failure to obtain 25% of the votes in the FCT.

Many Nigerians have argued that a presidential candidate must secure 25% of the votes, including those in the FCT, as a prerequisite for being declared the winner.
