Pete Edochie Responds to Kanayo O. Kanayo's Claim of Seniority in Nollywood [Video]

The legendary Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie, has eloquently enlightened those who may not be familiar with his extensive history in the world of acting.

With graciousness, he offered insights into the beginnings of his illustrious career following a claim made by his colleague, Kanayo O Kanayo, regarding their respective entry into Nollywood.

Kanayo O. Kanayo, in a viral video, asserted that he held seniority over the veteran actor Pete Edochie in Nollywood.

However, Pete Edochie clarified that while he had been involved in cinema projects before Kanayo O. Kanayo, in the context of Nollywood, he was indeed senior to the "Lion of Africa."

In a noteworthy response, Pete Edochie, during a recent interview with Afia TV, emphasized that he predates Nigeria's movie industry, Nollywood itself.

The revered cinematic figure highlighted that when he portrayed his role in "Things Fall Apart" in 1985, the concept of Nollywood had not yet come into existence. According to him, the film industry was still in its nascent stages.

Furthermore, Pete Edochie revealed that Nollywood only came into existence seven years later with the groundbreaking release of "Living in Bondage."

In his words;
“I am senior to the movie industry. When I did Things Fall Apart in 1985, there was nothing like Nollywood. By then, Nollywood was slumbering sonorously in the womb of time.” 

Pete Edochie delved into how “Things Fall Apart” served as a catalyst for his illustrious career, propelling him to fame as an actor.

He recounted his globetrotting experiences and even mentioned how the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) ventured to Nigeria to interview him and arranged for him to visit America for a meeting with Chinua Achebe, the esteemed author of the book that inspired the film.
