Nigeria is going to the World Championships in Budapest with her powerhouses. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has released the list of the team that will be going to the contest, and surprisingly Tobi Amusan, Udodi Onwuzurike, and Godson Brume were not included.

The sad news making the rounds on Twitter has it that Nigeria's best athletes in, Tobi Amusan, Udodi Onwuzurike, and Godson Brume, will not be at the World Championships as announced by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) releasing the team list to Budapest.

The federation released a 26-member list comprising 11 male and 15 female athletes expected to don the country's colours in the Hungarian capital from August 19 - 27.

World champion Amusan is left out following her alleged doping scandal case of missing three tests by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

With her hearing yet to take place and uncertainty on being cleared or guilty before the commencement of the championship, the World Record (WR) holder may likely not be able to defend her women's 100m Hurdles title.

Consequently, Onwuzurike is out based on reports of being injured and unhealthy to make the championship.

Udodi Onwuzurike out of World Championships in Budapest. Udodi sustained his injury after winning the NCAA 200m title and aggravated it when he competed for Nigeria in the 4x100m relays at the meet in Togo.

Udodi Onwuzurike bolts to 19.84s, becomes Stanford's first 200m champion in 84 years

Onwuzurike will be a major miss in Budapest in the 4x100m relays, as his 100m time of 9.92s is the second-fastest by a Nigerian male sprinter this season, and his 200m time of 19.76s is the fastest and fifth-fastest in the world.

Likewise, Brume is out with an injury, which he announced on his Twitter page that he'll focus on getting healthy for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In the absence of Onwuzurike and Brume, AFN has drafted Usheoritse Itsekiri, Seye Ogunlewe, and Karlington Anunagba in the 100m and relay squad.
