The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has issued an official statement regarding Tobi Amusan, the reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder.
On Thursday, August 17, 2023, the AIU released a statement on its official website confirming that Tobi Amusan was exonerated from the allegations against her. The statement acknowledges the decision with mixed sentiments, hinting at the intention to review the judgement before potentially escalating the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Disciplinary Tribunal's panel, through a majority decision, concluded that Tobi Amusan has not violated the Anti-Doping Rule by accumulating three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month timeframe. Brett Clothier, the AIU Head, expressed the organization's disappointment in this outcome and conveyed the intent to scrutinize the rationale comprehensively before determining whether an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is warranted, within the stipulated timeframe. Although the details of the decision remain confidential, they are set to be disclosed in due course. Notably, Amusan's provisional suspension has been promptly lifted.
Earlier, the 26-year-old athlete had been charged with three instances of whereabouts failures, a situation that constitutes an anti-doping rule breach due to missing three out-of-competition tests within a 12-month period.
This clearance paves the way for Amusan to defend her title in significant events, including the African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League.
