Nigerian artist and online personality Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P, has issued a stern warning of potential legal action against Polaris and Access banks due to a concerning breach of financial security.
Last year, Okoye raised the alarm about cybercriminals exploiting his name to deceive individuals on the internet. Notably, the singer had established a lottery initiative using his name, which sadly became a target for online fraud.
Expressing his discontent, Mr P utilized both his Instagram account and official social media handle, X, to voice his frustration. He questioned the banks' policies that seemingly allowed accounts to be opened under his name without proper verification procedures.
In his posts, Okoye shared images of the banks and made it clear that he intends to pursue legal action against them to claim damages. He also warned of potential further action against other banks involved in similar practices. This incident underscores the importance of robust security measures within the financial industry to prevent identity theft and fraudulent activities.
He tweeted: “Enough is enough. It’s either an inside job or otherwise. I have a name to protect here and save some of these innocent victims. So get ready for me and my legal team.
“How can @polarisbankltd and @myaccessbank allow someone to open an account in the name of “PETER OKOYE PSQUARE” without valid means of identification, no BVN, no biometrics, no verified address or even utility bill to correspond with the address of the account owner. Now they are using my name to scam innocent people. I’m suing this bank for damages @officialefcc take note.”
