Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Damini Ogulu, known by his stage name Burna Boy, has suggested that his impact might have led the Recording Academy to introduce the new "Best African Music Performance" category at the Grammys.

Burna Boy, whose album "Twice As Tall" clinched the "Best Global Music Album" title at the 63rd Grammy Awards, has expressed a sense of responsibility for the establishment of the fresh African music category.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the self-proclaimed "African Giant" indicated that he wonders about the true significance and prestige of the newly introduced 'Best African Music Performance' award.

He remarked, "I do feel somewhat responsible for the new 'Best African Music Performance' category, which is nice. At the same time, what is it really? Is it a consolation category? Will it hold as much prestige? I’m waiting to see."

According to the award organizers, this addition encompasses contemporary and traditional music from the African continent, spanning genres such as Afrobeats, Afro-pop, Amapiano, High Life, Fuji, among others.
