In what we can call a revenge match was that between Nigeria’s U-20 team and Argentina's U-20 side. Nigeria and Argentina has a strong history in football in every competition, from the U-17 to the Senior Team, both team have always met.
In this ongoing 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the Nigerian side stunned the Argentine U-20 side 2-0 on Wednesday night to progress to the quarter-finals.
With that win, the Flying Eagles have completed the revenge of 2005 when Messi stole the Golden Ball Award from Mikel Obi in the same tournament hosted in Netherlands. Messi's Argentina won the contest that year by 2-1 beating Nigeria in the finals in a controversial match that saw Messi awarded two penalties.
Ibrahim Muhammad scored the first goal for Ladan Bosso’s men in the 61st minute.
Deep into stoppage time, Rilwanu Sarki headed into the net, to seal the huge win for Nigeria. Knocking out the host Argentina, is the best revenge ever!
They will now play either Korean Republic or Ecuador for a place in the semi-final of the tournament.
