Shocking: House PASSES bill to ban transgenders from sports teams [Video]

A turn of events that left many surprised and shocked was the case at the US assembly today Thursday 20th April 2023. The House Republicans passed a ban on transgender women and girls from competing in female school athletics in response to the Biden administration proposing a change to Title IX that would make it harder to bar trans athletes.

It was reported that only Republicans voted for the bill, no Democrats and it was said it might not be taken up in the Senate as a result. Both parties are standing at different ends of the divide.

According to the Republicans, the issue is about protecting women's rights. However, Democrats countered that the bill will open up a fresh salvo to attack trans kids who already face bullying in schools.

'Anyone who claims to be a feminist or believe in what feminism was founded upon, should probably stand with us,' Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, said in a news conference.

'This is a dire situation. Every single day, whether it's Lia Thomas... our women are physically not able to have a level playing field when it comes to biological males competing,' House GOP Conference chair Elise Stefanik told our source ahead of the vote.

'Stark, raving-mad leftists have perverted what should be a very simple subject,' she said. 'I don't care how many surgeries you have; I don't care how the chemicals you put into your body. You're not going to be a biological woman.'

'Anyone who grew up in the '60s and fought for women's rights should not fall for this trap,' said Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va.

Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wisc., chair of the Equality Caucus for LGBTQ rights, had a different view: 'These kids are kids and should be able to play with their friends. This isn't about protecting women & girls; it's about attacking trans kids,' he tweeted.

'They don't actually care about women's sports but would rather bully trans kids and expose all girls to invasive bodily inspections,' said Rep. Pocan in another tweet.

Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., said the bill was not an attack on trans people.

'I am a live and let live person. You can be whoever you want to be. If you want to be trans, that's your right. But what about my rights? What about the rights of my daughters?'

Republicans have put transgender athletes in their culture war crosshairs after University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, who had competed on the men's swim team, switched genders and joined the women's swim team.

She became the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship.

'This is a dire situation. Every single day, whether it's Lia Thomas... our women are physically not able to have a level playing field when it comes to biological males competing,' House GOP Conference chair Elise Stefanik told DailyMail.com ahead of the vote.

Since then, more than a dozen GOP-led states have enacted transgender sports bans. Republicans have also pushed forward bans on gender transition care for minors.

Marjorie Taylor Greene weighed into the debate on Twitter: 'Joe Biden and the Democrats want men beating down women and girls by participating in women’s sports.'

Biden hit back with a Department of Education proposal that would make 'categorically' barring a transgender girl from female sports a violation of Title IX.

However, it would allow universities and K-12 schools to bar transgender women allowing them to compete would undermine fairness or potentially lead to sports-related injuries.

Democrat Leader Jeffries said knocked Republicans for focusing on culture war issues, unlike House Democrats who 'are focused on to make life better for everyday Americans.'

'They've decided that they want to ban trans children from playing sports,' he said. 'They did not focus on the economy, not focus on jobs, not focused on healthcare, not focused on inflation, not focused on public safety.'
