American Music Award: Wizkid wins Afrobeats Award, makes history

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Ayo Balogun, popularly called Wizkid, made history as the first African and Nigerian to win an American Music Award. The cheery news was revealed on the official Twitter account of the award organisers on Sunday.

The tweet read, “Congrats to @wizkidayo and @temsbaby! “Essence” won an #AMAs for “Favorite R&B Song!”.

Wizkid didn’t just win the “Favourite Afrobeats artist” Award; he did it by beating Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems.
