After losing their first 2022 FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup Group B game to Germany 2-1, Nigeria’s Flamingos thumped New Zealand 4-0 in their game on Friday.
Coming from a 2-1 loss to Germany in their group opener, the Flamingos were poised to amass all three points in the second game.
The Nigerian girls started the game by scoring a fantastic header by Amina Bello 16 minutes into the game through a cross from Tumininu Adeshina. However, in the 34th minute, Miracle Usani made it 2-0 with a miraculous curly shot from the left flank that beat both the goalkeeper and the last defender.
With the second half opening, the Flamingos played well to increase the goal tally, not minding the fact that they already had two goals in their kitty. There were strings of misses just like in the first half. The Nigerian girls did not relent as they contested every ball.
Their persistence paid off because just 15 minutes left, Amina Bello passed the ball to Taiwo Afolabi who scored a beautiful third goal outside the 18-yard box to give the Flamingos a comfortable lead.

The half stretched with the 3-goal lead by the Flamingoes. However, as it has been concluded that the match will end 3-0, Edidiong completed the rout 4-0 at the stroke of 90 minutes with a beautiful lob shot over the goalkeeper.
With the three maximum points from the game, the Flamingos are now set to face Chile in their final group game on Monday, October 17, 2022.
