Francis Uzoho smiled throughout a heartwarming interview that went viral after his heroic display in Manchester United vs. Omonia on Thursday evening. As a lifelong United fan, Uzoho was named in the starting lineup for the Europa League match at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old displayed heroically as he made save after save against Erik ten Hag’s side. United players like Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, and Cristiano Ronaldo threw everything they had, including the kitchen sink, at Uzoho, but he repelled them again and again.
Unfortunately for Uzoho and Omonia, the Nigerian was beaten in the 93rd minute when Scott McTominay fired the ball into the net from close range to give the home side the victory.
Omonia, a club with little known about them, held United at the theater of dream on a goaless run before the heartbreaking defeat. Omonia came so close to running away from Old Trafford with a share of the spoils.
Uzoho made 12 saves, earning him a 9.2/10 rating by WhoScored.com, but he was happy after the match. He couldn’t stop smiling during a wholesome interview with BT Sport.
When asked if he was frustrated after the game, he replied: “I am not disappointed because we had a good game. We would have preferred to get at least a point, but I am happy. It’s not an easy stadium to play in with these big players, but I’m happy in general.
“It’s a dream come true [to play at Old Trafford]. I have dreamed to play here for a long, long time. So when I saw the draw, and figured I would be playing at Old Trafford, I wanted to play and prayed to God that I would get the opportunity to play. I got it, and I am happy that I played here.
When asked whether it was the best display of his career, Uzoho replied: “Arguably yes. Yes, I think so.”
He added: “I am very proud of his teammates. It was not a one-man job. We gave everything as a team. I am happy with my performance, and that’s it.”
What a lovely interview. Uzoho will never forget his heroic performance at Old Trafford for the rest of his life.
