Famous Nigerian human rights activist Ariyo-Dare Atoye succumb to the cold hands of death after battling health issues. Our source gathered that the Executive Director of Adopt A Goal Initiative has been down with an ailment in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.
On October 15, 2022, he sent a text message from his sick bed that he needed prayers and support from Nigerians to save his life.
Announcing his death on Thursday afternoon, Deji Adeyanju, tweeted, “My brother comrade Ariyo Dare Atoye has gone to be with the Lord. He was looking at me till the last moment. From God, we came, and it is certain to Him we will return.”
Also confirming his death, the Presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, one of his close associates, in a Facebook Post on Thursday, said, “Today, we lost an amazing human being to the cold hands of death. Rest in Power @AriyoAristotle! Sad day!”
Atoye is a frontline human rights crusader who has stood against oppression, injustice and any force and action that seeks to undermine civic and media space.

He played a significant role in the passage and signing of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2022 into law through a coalition called Civil Society Partners on Electoral Reform (CiSPER).
He has led several protests against the initial delay in the bill’s passage.
Ariyo, who hailed from Ekiti State, studied Mass Communication at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. He also studied Post Graduate School at the University of Lagos.
