Following the demise of the longest-serving monarch in the English dynasty, Queen Elizabeth II, all EPL have announced the postponement of matches fixed for the weekend and Monday.

The postponement will affect all matchday seven fixtures in honour of Queen Elizabeth, who passed on to glory on Thursday. The EPL clubs met on Friday morning to pay respect to the late queen and there and then decided to postpone the matches.

“At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game,” it said in a statement. “Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.”

Buckingham Palace officially announced on Thursday afternoon the death of the Queen at 96 after health complications in Balmoral royal garden in Aberdeen, Scotland.

“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” said Buckingham Palace.

As the longest-serving monarch in British history, she died after occupying the throne for 70 years over the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, as the Premier League postponed all sporting activities in honour of the Queen, Ireland FA too has postponed football matches across the region.

In addition, Horse racing, cricket, rugby, and other sports events are being postponed across the United Kingdom.
