CHAN 2023 Qualifier: Ghana shoves Super Eagles aside to qualify on penalties

Again the lighting seems to strike the same place, and the Black Galaxies of Ghana defeated the Super Eagles Team B to pick up the tickets to next year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

The Super Eagles B brought their A-game at the Moshood Abiola Stadium with goals from Zulkifilu Mohammed in the 76th minute and Chijioke Akuneto in the 94th minute, winning the match by 2 goals to nothing, which put both teams on 2-2 goals aggregate. However, the game was settled with a penalty shootout making Ghana edge Nigeria 5-4.

For Ghana, it was all joy as they will be making a return to CHAN after missing the last three editions of the championship.

For Nigeria, the loss to Ghana is one too many making it the second time this year Ghana will be standing in the national team’s way to qualifying for a major competition.

First, in March, the Black Stars of Ghana shocked the Super Eagles, booked the World Cup ticket holding in December in Qatar and now, in September, the Black Galaxies. 

This occurrence makes one wonder what is happening to Nigerian football.
