Transfer Deadline Day: When is the window closing and what deals can still be completed?

As we inch closer to September 1, the summer transfer deadline day in Europe, let us briefly review some deals that could still be made before the final shutdown. Some top clubs in the premier league could still make last-minute transfers before the window closes. Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United fell into this category.

Across Europe, the summer transfer window will shut soon, and clubs’ expenditure on new players is inching to a close. While some are yet to be made, quite some huge deals have been completed over the last few days. Brazilian winger Antony for example, got a 100 million euros move from Ajax to Manchester United, which is a big one.

However, a few moves are still on the way, including Barcelona forwarding Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang to Chelsea. Cristiano Ronaldo’s stay or leave deal is still on the table while the Manchester United star’s agent is still in talks with a few clubs over his potential transfer. As the minutes tick away, there is barely enough time for the deal to be completed.

When does the summer transfer window shut?

Across Europe, the summer transfer window will end on September 01. The Premier League window will shut at 11:00 PM BST, while the transfers in Spain need to be completed by 10:59 PM BST.

In Italy, the window closes at 4:00 PM BST, while in Germany, the transfer window will shut at 4:00 PM BST too. Ligue 1 (France) will see the transfer window ending at 10:00 PM BST.

Importantly, even after the official transfer window closes, free agents can be signed by clubs anytime.

Pending transfers that can still be completed

Cristiano Ronaldo to Sporting CP

Sporting and Napoli are the two clubs that have been linked with Ronaldo over the last few days. Of the two, a move to Sporting is looking the most plausible at the moment. Ronaldo has already faced rejection from many clubs but remains keen to leave United.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea

The Gabon international has long been linked with a return to the Premier League. The transfer fee between Chelsea and Barcelona was said to be the biggest roadblock that was preventing Aubameyang’s move. The Blues are desperate to sign a striker after they let Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner go. It does seem like Aubameyang will soon be a Chelsea player.

Pedro Neto to Arsenal

The only team with a 100% record in the Premier League so far, Arsenal is looking to bolster its roster further before the window shuts. Wolverhampton Wanderer’s Pedro Neto seems like the ideal candidate to replace Nicholas Pepe and give the team the required bench strength to compete in 4 different tournaments this season.
