“If anything happens to me, you will be held responsible!!!!” - Sam Omatseye to Peter Obi

Sam Omatseye, a veteran journalist and celebrated columnist, in his recent essay titled ‘Obi-tuary,’ accused Peter Obi of using religion as bait in the forthcoming elections.

In a tweet after the essay went viral, he cried out that Peter Obi supporters were calling and issuing death threats against him. His cry for help came barely 24 hours after his opinion piece published in The Nation newspaper generated controversy on social media.

The piece was published on Monday, August 1, 2022, and in it, Omatseye called Obi’s supporters Biafran blabbers. He added that they are supporting Obi in disguise to agitate for Biafra actualization.

The essay reads in part, “Obi has turned out to be an excuse for even closet Biafrans to betray open emotions about Biafra without being accused of it.

“This includes intellectuals who did not show mercy to him while he reigned in Anambra as a pharisaic chief executive. It is like wearing a colour beneath another colour. Obi has become a shelter for both miscreants and activists of the crowd.”

As earlier said, Omatseye accused Obi of using religion as bait in the forthcoming elections.

He wrote, “He (Obi) is therefore using religion as a bait. He is now on a weekly pilgrimage to churches. Jonathan did the same. The pastors, ever opportunistic, see him as a darling.

“He is visiting a sectional hue of pews. This is the man who divided the church in Anambra State in his time between Catholics and the others.”

Omatseye’s essay caused an outrage on Twitter, making many of Obi’s supporters criticize and call him a fake journalist.

After several criticisms and attacks, it was gathered from Omatseye that there was a threat to his life by Obi supporters. He tweeted it on Monday on his Twitter page. He said Obi should be held responsible if he is harmed.

It would be recalled that Obi recently cautioned his supporters on social media to stop attacking or insulting anyone over his presidential ambition.
