Falconet’s Flourish Sabastine became the hero for Nigeria in the 85th minute of the game against France in their opening game of the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

It was a ding-dong affair with each team holding their own to keep the match goalless, and expectedly one opportunity could prove the decider.

Recall that the game was initially suspended in the 20th minute as a result of a heavy downpour. However, after an hour, the group crew did their job to get the pitch puddle free for the game to continue. The spirit of the Danjuma girls did not dampen as they continued from where they stopped when the game got going again.

It was France that started things with a goal from a corner kick which was canceled after VAR consultation by Mexican referee Francia Gonzalez because the France girl fouled Nigeria’s goalkeeper Omini Oyono while trying to score.

In the 84th Minute, it was as if the match will end goalless but a perfectly timed through pass from the midfield to a composed
Flourish Sabastine, the top scorer in the qualifier. She did not waste time before tucking it neatly past the French goalkeeper into the net cool as cucumber.

With that win, the Nigerian girls will meet South Korea on Sunday in high spirit bolstered by the three points raked off the Europeans. We can only wish them the best of luck.
