The stage is set for the battle royale for the teams of Group C in a bid to qualify for the quarterfinals.

The group’s first, second, and third teams would qualify, and anyone could be knocked out, including the Super Falcons. Only South Africa is exempted from the four after winning their two matches.

The Super Falcons team is ready to die on the pitch against Burundi to qualify; they started on a poor note losing their opening game to South Africa. The Super Falcons can get knocked out if they lose their final Group C game against Burundi, who are in the WAFCON for the first time.

Nigeria will be playing against Burundi, basking in the euphoria of the victory over Botswana, thanks to goals from Ifeoma Onumonu and Christy Ucheibe.

Burundi, on the hand, is coming into the match from a 3-1 defeat to South Africa.

However, Group C is still very open for anyone to qualify and can also be knocked out. South Africa will qualify, but can Nigeria or Burundi pick the ticket?

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Nigeria lost 2-0 in its group opener to South Africa but came back strongly with a convincing 2-0 victory over Botswana on Thursday.

However, Burundi has failed to win any match losing despite scoring beautiful goals against the two opponents. They lost against Botswana and South Africa 4-2 and 3-1, respectively.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Sunday game, the managers of both teams have been talking tough, and here are what they said:

Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum:

We know what the Women Africa Cup means to Nigerians and we remain fully focused despite the opening-day setback. We are determined not only to win a ticket to the FIFA World Cup but also to retain the trophy that Nigeria has won nine times previously.

Burundi's coach Gustave Niyonkuru:

At the moment Nigeria are also a good team, they are such an experienced team. I will have to revise my strategy because today [vs Botswana] I proposed a middle block. But it’s very risky because we are technically weak. So I’m going to correct to have a clean median block.

Match kick-off time is 9pm Nigerian Time.
