Livestreaming Google Meet meetings is now possible

As a result of the pandemic, the need to collaborate has made virtual meetings, and video calls a top priority today. Video calls have taken over workspaces. Now Google Meet is rolling out the ability to live-stream meetings on YouTube. Yes, you heard clearly, YouTube!

Livestreaming Google Meet meetings on YouTube would make meetings open to viewers more seamlessly than using the old Meet method. Google Workplace admins have the right to choose public streaming for the business accounts they manage. This option allows the admin to control which meeting goes public and stays within the Meet itself.

The YouTube Livestreaming feature is not available to all and sundry. It is only available on most paid Workplace accounts, including Enterprise tiers (Starter, Standard and Plus), Education Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade and Workplace Individual Subscribers and Google One Premium Plan subscribers in certain countries. Be that as it may, most Starter, Basic, Legacy or Essential plans do not have access.

How to Stream Google Meet Session to YouTube

To live stream a Google Meet session to YouTube require a few steps. As stated earlier, live streaming lets you interact with your audience in real-time with a view feed, chat, and more.

1. Activate live streaming

The first step to live stream is to ensure that you do not have live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Also, it would help if you verified your channel.

a) Launch YouTube to begin

b) Proceed to the top right side of the screen and click Create and then click Go live

c) Once you have verified your channel before the session, the streaming will commence instantly once you click Go Live.

2. Choose a way to stream

You can stream in three different ways - mobile, webcam and encoder. You can choose the one that is best suited for you.

Mobile

Streaming via mobile is best for vlogging and quick updates from your phone or tablet. To stream on mobile, there are some requirements to be met. Once those requirements are met, the mobile streaming is seamless.

Webcam

You can live stream using your webcam quickly. Note you need a laptop or computer with a webcam to do so.

Encoder

Encoders are basically used for gaming, sporting events, concerts and conferences. Livestreaming via encoders allows users to stream gameplay, overlay, and use hardware like preamps, mics and cameras. To live stream a Google Meet session to YouTube, you must first request ahead in advance to have your YouTube channel approved. The approval in question could take up to 24 hours.

Google Meet Metamorphosis

Google Meet has metamorphosed into what it is today, going through a series of changes this year. The changes include merging Meet with Duo into one single hub for voice and video calls.

Also, in June 2021, Google delivered an update for teachers on Meet, allowing users to stream events like school board meetings on YouTube, which is now widely available (but eligible accounts would get the update in a couple of weeks). Other features Google mentioned include improvements for breakout rooms and a “video lock”, which gives the host control to turn off every participant’s videos all at once or mute everyone. That update has since been pushed.

In March, Google introduced small but valuable changes like picture-in-picture and emoji. Google Meet’s interface refresh brought an easy shortcut to avoid seeing your face the entire time, methods for pinning and unpinning content, and a single bar to contain all of Meet’s controls.
