FG announces implementation guidelines for enforcing Executive Order 5

Chief Ogbonnaya Onu

The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu has says that the Federal Government has approved the guidelines for the implementation of Executive Order 5, which puts Nigerian professionals at the core of the country's economic and social growth.

Nigerian professionals have been put at the center of economic and social growth through the development of the Executive Order.

You can note that the Executive Orders 5 contained in the 12 February 2018 Presidential Directives were explicitly enacted to provide impetus to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari's Local Content Creation and Promotion push.

In March 2019, the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, also submitted a report on the draft bill on Executive Order 5 to the Inter-Ministerial Committee.

Now, the nation is edging towards implementation. Dr. Onu said this when, on Thursday in Abuja, he received the Association of Computer Village Technology Merchants of Nigeria in his office.

The Minister reiterated that Executive Order 5 is the right step in repositioning the economic fortunes of Nigeria in the right direction.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement will give Nigerian companies access to over 1.2 billion people around the continent, according to Onu.

In his terms,' Nigerian companies have access to not only 200 million Nigerians, but 1,2 billion people in Africa with the new African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. Nigeria wants to be a super force internationally.

He told the association of a relationship with the Ministry. In addition, cooperation between them will raise the Gross Domestic Product of Nigeria (GDP).

He stressed that the Ministry is committed to supporting Nigerians who contribute significantly to the growth of science, technology and innovation.

The Minister added that the association's collaboration would generate wealth, dramatically reduce unemployment, decrease crime and increase government revenue.

President of the Association of Computer Village Technology Merchants of Nigeria, Prince Tony Nwakeze said earlier that his association wants to work together with the Ministry to create an enabling environment.

He said the requested enabling environment includes: reduced import tariffs, financial grants, training and the development of a technology center to promote their operations.

He added that his organization has provided jobs for over 5 million young people and has had a positive effect on the country's economy by growing the revenue generated internally (IGR).
