Photos: Miss World organizers ban Miss Ukraine for being a single mother

Veronika Didusenko, who was crowned Miss Ukraine 2018 for only four days, has filed a lawsuit against the organisers of Miss World. She was banned from representing her country at the global pageant that year after it was revealed that she had been married and is mother to a five-year-old.

Veronica launched the global campaign #RightToBeAMother after that.

The 24-year-old called the rules of the pageant “discriminatory on various grounds, namely marital status, and pregnancy and maternity,” in one of her Instagram posts which she shared on Sunday, blasting Miss World.

She also wrote, “I don’t want the crown back. I want to get the rules changed for wider society. These rules are a systemic, widespread and international policy that results in discrimination on large scale across many countries.”

Veronika’s lawsuit claims that Miss World breached the Equality Act, 2010, of the United Kingdom.

The Act legally protects discrimination against anyone on the basis of age, gender reassignment, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or on maternity leave, race and several other factors.

Agence France-Presse reported Miss World organisers have still not commented on the issue.

The 69th Miss World Finale will be held on December 14, 2019, in London, United Kingdom.
