Another Lawmaker Seat Declared Vacant In Kogi State Assembly

Kogi State House of Assembly

Hon. Linus Ojochenemi Eneche's seat, the lawmaker representing Olamaboro state constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday was declared vacant.

The Daily Post reported that this is the second time the current sixth Assembly will be declaring a member’s seat vacant since the inauguration of the house in 2015.

Eneche had earlier defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to contest under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general election.

Moving a motion for his seat to be declared vacant, the house Majority Leader, Hon. Hassan Abdullahi Bello (APC Ajaokuta) averred that his colleague from Olamaboro defected to another party without considering the Law.

The Ajaokuta lawmaker informed the Assembly that he has made his personal investigation before moving the motion.

Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed (APC Ankpa I), while seconding the motion, disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains a united party and is not in any form of crisis.

Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. (Barr.) Oluwatoyin Lawal (PDP Yagba West), was however of the view that the embattled lawmaker has not announced his defection on the floor of the house.

According to him, ” I am aware that Hon. Linus Eneche has approached the court and as such the House should not discuss any matter that is in the court.”

Hon. Sunday Shigaba (PDP Bassa), on his part, supported the position of the deputy minority leader and suggested that a committee be set up for further clarification.

The Speaker, while ruling on the matter, pointed out that the APC has confirmed that Hon. Eneche name is with INEC as the People Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the forthcoming House of Assembly election.

Also, Prince Kolawole intimated his colleagues that he doesn’t have any document before him to affirm that Hon. Eneche is in court.
