Fayemi Has Finally Resigned As Minister To Focus On Ekiti Governorship Election

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has tendered his resignation to enable him focus on the task ahead, which is to win the Governorship race of Ekiti State come July 14th, 2018.

According to a report by Saharareporters, the Minister tendered his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari about three weeks ago, but it officially takes effect today, Wednesday, May 30.

Fayemi, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the election having won a rescheduled primary of the party on May 12, will be in office today to address a press conference where he will give account of his stewardship in the ministry and finally sign off at 12:00pm.


It could be recalled that Fayemi clinched the ticket for the APC governorship primaries by pulling 941 votes, while his contenders Segun Oni (481 votes), Kayode Ojo (281), Olufemi Richard Bamisile (179), Oluyede Oluwole (121), and Aluko Daniel Olugbenga (86).

In a statement credited to Governor Fayose, he had boasted that an “electoral disaster” awaits Fayemi in July, saying: “He will suffer the worst defeat of his political career… after the July 14 election, he will go into political oblivion.”
