In spite of all the controversies trailing the If crooner, David Adeleke, AKA Davido, his fan base has remained steadfast. Davido is leading other Nigerian celebrity fan base with over five million followers on his Instagram.
Recently three of Davido's close friends died within a week under controversial circumstances. One of them, Tagbo Umike, an engineer by training was said to have drunk himself to death as his autopsy revealed while Olugbenga Abiodun AKA DJ Olu and Chime Amaechi who were until their death, members of his crew were found dead inside a BMW car in a garage on Block B, Banana Island, Ikoyi Lagos. The incidences had led to the arrest,detention and later release of the music star over allegations of complicity and lying to the police.
Currently, Davido is on bail while police continue with the investigation. However, in spite of all that, Davido's fan base have remained not only faithful, they have become die- hard. Ordinarily this kind of controversy especially as it relates to loss of lives cause migration in some celebrity's fan base. But this has not been the case for Davido. Some of his fans feel strongly that he is too cool to hurt a fly.
According to them,there is no way any of the deaths could be traced to him. some are of the view that the deceased were the cause of their own death, some of the reasons why his fans have remained with him are because of his philanthropic gestures. According to them, Davido unlike most other Nigerian celebrities is kind to a fault.
They said that he hates to see the poor suffer. According to them, among all his contemporary artistes, he is the only one that cares for the poor. They are also of the view that even though Davido is from a very rich home,he is down to earth. According to them, Davido eats and drinks with the poor, unlike the other celebrities who behave as if it is a privilege to others that they came to the world.
