A lecturer with Enugu State College of Education, Technical, Dr. Jude Enebechi, has commended Enugu State Government for investing heavily in the education sector.
The lecturer told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday that the investment would ease access to education and improve quality of knowledge imparted to students.
Enebechi, who teaches public health education, said the government had embarked on massive infrastructural development and recruited teachers to improve the standard of education in the state.
“Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has embarked on infrastructural development, renovation of schools, giving them a complete face-lift.
“ The administration has also recruited new teachers for primary schools in the state. It is a sign that they want to improve the standard of education in the state,” he said.
He also commended the Provost of the college for the judicious use of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to improve facilities at the college.
“ The Provost and Registrar of our college used TETFUND to build new infrastructure, awarded scholarships, sponsor researchers and gave the institution a befitting upgrade,” he said.
Enebechi, who is in South Africa to attend an International Conference on Education, said that education had three major driving forces, which include cost, access, and quality.
“ Access means making everybody having access to education, cost is reducing the cost without compromising quality while quality is about standard,” he said.
He said academics from Africa would use the conference to brainstorm and point the way forward on improving education in the continent.(NAN)
