Reports reaching us now say that the ECOWAS troops have
been ordered to capture ex-President Jammeh dead or alive.
This is so painful considering the kind of status, prestige and
personality he stands to lose even though he had the apple
opportunity to make himself a hero and write his name in the annals of history
just like Nigerian former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
But instead of heeding the voice of reason and honorably steps
down, he chose to turn himself into a villain. In spite of seeing all his
cabinets and close associates (the latest being his vice president) resigning
and fleeing abroad, Jammeh still hardened his heart and wouldn't let go like
the Biblical Pharaoh.
Jammeh had remained defiant and adamant. He is still poises with
his ambition to over turn the results of the presidential election of December
1, 2016 which was won by the candidate of the opposition party, Mr Barrow.
As Professor Adegboyin posted on his Facebook page, " Jammeh had preferred to drown in the badly sinking ship of state.
Even with all the entreaties from
African and world leaders! Now if the reports are true that he is a wanted man,
we can easily see that the transition from a powerful president to a common
criminal can be so fast.
Shorn of his powers, whatever Jammeh's legacy was,
some people fear, would now be seen as one in which "pen of the sword
dipped in innocent blood wrote its history on the rough pages of tyranny".
