Apostle Michael Orokpo has advised Christians to think carefully about marriage, warning that difficult experiences between couples should not automatically lead to divorce and remarriage.

The preacher believes many people underestimate the responsibilities that come with marriage, especially when they make the decision based mainly on romantic feelings. He urged unmarried Christians to be more deliberate about choosing their partners and understanding the commitment they are about to make.

For couples already dealing with serious marital problems, Orokpo recommended seeking intervention from recognised spiritual authorities instead of relying on advice from people on social media.

He explained that such authorities should examine the circumstances surrounding the marriage and determine whether the problems can be resolved. Where living together becomes difficult, he said temporary separation could be considered, but it should come with counselling and spiritual guidance aimed at helping both partners change.

He said:

"Forget this garbage on Facebook. 'I tell you, if he sl@ps you or she sl@ps you, walk away'. Walk away to where? There is no divorce because of a cr!s!s in marriage.

Go and read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The Bible did not prescribe divorce because of a crisis in marriage. That is why you should not jump into marriage because of feelings.

Marry correctly. But if that is already happening, go to an authority. That authority will investigate the situation to determine the exact problem and whether it can be resolved.

If it cannot be resolved immediately, the authority will separate you. This separation does not mean you should go and live your life independently.

During the separation, both of you will receive counselling and discipleship because the goal is to bring about transformation. If they eventually believe you can coexist, they will bring you back together.

However, if reconciliation is impossible, the authority can tell you to go your separate ways. But you cannot divorce and remarry. It will become a cross you will bear for a lifetime.

Before you get married, those of you who are not yet married should do it the biblical way.

For those who are already married, invest in character, prayer and the Word of God to make your marriage work. If it deteriorates, it will become a cross.

If somebody tells you on Facebook that you quarrelled, he sl@p_ped you or b£at you, and you should walk away, then you walk away and marry another person.

Jesus said that if it is not for the cause of fornication, you are guilty of adultery. The person who marries you is also guilty of adultery, and marriage will become the reason you go to h£ll.

So many people enter marriage saved, but they walk out of marriage unsaved and go to hell."

Orokpo further encouraged married Christians to make prayer, personal development and studying the Bible part of their efforts to sustain their relationships. He maintained that marriage requires more than the excitement people experience when they first fall in love.

His position is that couples should exhaust opportunities for spiritual intervention and reconciliation before considering permanent separation. He also maintains that divorce should not be followed by another marriage, based on his interpretation of Jesus' teaching on adultery and remarriage.

His comments also touch on an important distinction between marital disagreements and physical abuse. Anyone experiencing violence should prioritise personal safety and seek appropriate protection and professional support rather than remain in immediate danger.

The preacher's message places particular emphasis on preparation before marriage, accountability within marriage and the role of spiritual guidance when relationships encounter serious difficulties.
