Popular Nigerian chef and restaurateur Hilda Baci has spoken against the tendency of people to attribute her achievements to her romantic partner, insisting that her success is a result of her personal efforts and dedication.
The celebrity chef expressed her displeasure with the attitude, describing it as a reflection of how society continues to perceive women and their accomplishments.
Hilda Baci made her position known in a video shared by Goldmyne TV, where she addressed comments suggesting that her relationship has played a major role in her professional achievements.
According to her, although such remarks do not necessarily make her angry, she finds them upsetting because they undermine the hard work women put into building their careers and establishing themselves.
She explained that attributing a woman's success to the influence of her male partner takes attention away from her individual sacrifices, determination and commitment to achieving her goals.
The chef noted that such perceptions reveal the mindset that still exists within society, particularly when it comes to recognising women's accomplishments.
Hilda Baci also stressed that she remains deliberate about using her platform and achievements to encourage other women to pursue their ambitions and become financially and professionally independent.
She said her commitment to representing women goes beyond personal recognition, adding that she wants to create opportunities that would enable more women to discover their potential and achieve success.
The Guinness World Record holder emphasised the importance of giving women the support and opportunities they need to succeed on their own terms.
Her comments have also drawn attention to the broader conversation about how society acknowledges women's achievements, especially in industries where their accomplishments are sometimes linked to their relationships with influential men.
Hilda Baci has become one of Nigeria's most recognised culinary personalities, earning widespread attention through her cooking business and record-breaking achievements.
She gained international recognition in 2023 after completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, setting a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual at the time.
Her latest remarks reinforce her position that women deserve to receive recognition for their individual contributions rather than having their achievements credited to their romantic relationships.
