Isaac Fayose has raised questions about President Bola Tinubu’s electoral strength ahead of the 2027 general election, suggesting that the president may find it difficult to secure victories across most states without electoral manipulation.

In his assessment of the political situation, Fayose identified Ekiti, Osun and Ogun as the only states where he believes Tinubu could win without rigging. He argued that the president would face a much tougher contest in other parts of the country, where he believes securing victory would require more than just political support.

Fayose also made a controversial reference to poverty, suggesting that economic hardship has affected the ability of some voters to understand and exercise their rights. He specifically connected this observation to the three states he mentioned, making a statement that is likely to attract attention because of its sweeping description of the people living there.

He said:

«“The only states President Tinubu can win 2027 election without rigging are Ekiti, Osun and Ogun, where people don't usually know their right from left due to poverty. Every other state they can only win by rigging.”»

His statement reflects his assessment of the political challenges Tinubu could face as the country moves closer to another presidential election. However, it is important to note that this is Fayose's personal position and not an established indication of how Nigerians will vote in 2027.

The three states he mentioned are in the South-West, the same region where Tinubu has strong political roots. Ekiti, Osun and Ogun have their own political histories, voting patterns and competing interests, meaning the outcome of the next election in those states will depend on several factors.

Beyond the South-West, Tinubu's chances in other parts of the country will also be influenced by the state of the economy, security concerns, public confidence in the government and the performance of opposition parties. These issues could play significant roles in shaping voters' decisions when they eventually head to the polls.

With the 2027 election approaching, political comments and predictions about the president's chances are likely to become more frequent. Fayose's position is one such assessment, although the actual strength of Tinubu and other presidential contenders will ultimately be tested at the ballot box.
