Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has disclosed that her blockbuster movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, remains the most expensive production she has undertaken, largely due to the extensive logistics and filming arrangements involved.

The actress made this known during an interview with CNN Africa journalist Larry Madowo, where she discussed her filmmaking journey, career achievements and the financial demands of producing major cinema projects.

According to Funke Akindele, shooting the movie across Nigeria and Ghana contributed significantly to its production budget. She explained that transporting the cast and crew between the two countries, alongside other arrangements, required substantial financial resources.

One of the major filming locations was Safari Valley Resort in Ghana, which she described as an expensive venue to use for a movie production.

Funke Akindele explained that the decision to film at the resort, combined with the cost of moving the production team and equipment, made the project particularly demanding financially.

She said the production required careful planning, especially because she had to accommodate the needs of a large cast and crew throughout the filming process.

The filmmaker also offered an insight into her approach to creating movie sets, revealing that she prefers constructing her own locations rather than relying on existing residential properties.

According to her, she either rents or purchases a suitable location before transforming it into a set that meets the creative requirements of her productions.

Funke Akindele noted that building sets independently gives her greater control over the filming environment and allows her to achieve the desired production quality.

Released in Nigerian cinemas on December 13, 2024, Everybody Loves Jenifa went on to achieve remarkable commercial success.

The movie reportedly generated approximately N1.88 billion at the box office, establishing itself as one of the highest-grossing Nigerian films.

Its performance further strengthened Funke Akindele's position as one of the country's leading filmmakers, particularly in the cinema market.

The film also benefited from the popularity of the Jenifa franchise, which has remained a significant part of her entertainment career.

Over the years, Funke Akindele has built a reputation for producing commercially successful projects, combining comedy, relatable storytelling and recognisable characters to attract cinema audiences.

Her latest revelation offers a glimpse into the financial commitments behind major Nollywood productions, showing that achieving impressive cinema results often requires substantial investment in locations, logistics, cast and technical arrangements.

Despite the considerable expenses involved, the film's box office performance demonstrated the commercial rewards that can accompany a successful cinema release.
