A Nigerian woman, Edith Ekanem, is appealing to the public for help in locating a man after she mistakenly transferred ₦900,000 to him on September 1. She says she has been unable to recover the money despite initially speaking with the recipient, who she claims had assured her that he would return it.
Edith explained that she acted quickly after discovering the mistake by contacting the POS agent who handled the transaction. According to her, she informed the agent that the money had gone to the wrong account and asked for assistance in stopping or reversing the transfer.
She said the agent told her to remain calm, explaining that he had already contacted the recipient and asked him to refund the money. The agent subsequently gave her the man's phone number so she could discuss the matter with him directly.
When Edith called, she said the conversation initially went well. According to her account, the man spoke politely and gave her the impression that he understood the situation and was willing to return the money. He also requested her account number, which she provided, expecting the refund to follow.
However, the money did not arrive, even after she waited for several hours. When she decided to call again to find out what was happening, she claimed the man's response was completely different from their earlier conversation.
Edith alleged that he accused her of disturbing him and told her not to call the number again because he was working. She said she has continued waiting for the refund since September 1, but the man has now stopped answering her calls.
In her appeal, Edith asked Nigerians to help her find the man and shared her experience, hoping that someone might be able to assist her.
She said:
"Good morning, afternoon or evening depending on when you're seeing this video. My name is Edith Ekanem. I want to beg Nigerians please help me look for Mr Jacob Zingdam. On the first of September, I mistakenly sent 900K to his account. When I noticed I made the mistake I immediately called my pos agent and told him they should block the account that I just made a wrong transfer and which the agent said I should hold on. That he had already called the man that he should refund me the money.
"The agent also sent me the man's number to speak with him. Which I did. We spoke and he spoke to me in a polite manner. He made me believe he will send back that money. He asked me to send him my account number which I did. I waited for hours, and then called back. He said I was disturbing him. That I shouldn't call this line again that he's working. I've waited from the 1st till date, this man is no longer picking my calls."
Edith is now seeking assistance from anyone who may have information that could help her establish contact with the man and recover the money. Her account of the incident centres on the initial promise of a refund and her subsequent inability to reach the recipient.
