The paternal grandmother of late gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, has insisted that he must be buried at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, warning that she would curse anyone who attempts to change the arrangement.

The elderly woman made her position known in an interview with media personality Dunmininu, amid reports of disagreements over where the singer should be laid to rest following his death on October 14, 2026.

According to reports, Toluwanisings’ wife, Elizabeth, prefers that her late husband be buried in a cemetery. However, his grandmother rejected the proposal, insisting that his residence in Ibadan was the only place she would accept for his burial.

“I don’t want him to be buried in a cemetery or where his mother was buried. I want him to be buried at his house in Ibadan. I will curse whoever goes against that,” she declared.

Her comments have added another dimension to the discussions surrounding the singer’s final resting place, with members of his family reportedly expressing different views on the burial arrangements.

Grandmother Says She Had Not Seen Him for Five Years

During the interview, the grandmother also spoke about her relationship with Toluwanisings before his death, revealing that she had not seen him for more than five years.

She said she was unaware that he had become a gospel singer and had also not known that he had built a house in Ibadan.

According to her, the last time she saw the singer was when he visited her home with his wife, several years before his death.

“I didn’t know he was a singer; I only found out recently. I wasn’t aware that he had built a house either. I couldn’t reach him, and I last saw him over five years ago, before he eventually died, when he came to my house with his wife,” she said.

Her account offered insight into the distance that had developed between them over the years, despite their family relationship.

The grandmother also explained that she had struggled to maintain contact with the singer and was not fully aware of developments in his personal and professional life.

Recounts Financial Assistance From Late Singer

The elderly woman further disclosed that Toluwanisings had provided her with financial assistance on a few occasions but later stopped.

She said he sent her ₦10,000 three times after they briefly reconnected, but the support did not continue beyond those payments.

According to her, she had previously asked a woman to help her contact the singer. When they eventually spoke, she said he apologised for not visiting her, explaining that his demanding work schedule had kept him away.

“At some point, I asked a lady here to help me call him. When I eventually spoke to him, he apologised for not visiting me, saying it was because of his busy work schedule. After that, he sent me N10,000 three times, but he later stopped giving me any allowance,” she recounted.

She added that she later considered contacting him again because she needed money to buy a phone. However, she said one of his siblings discouraged her from reaching out to him.

“I wanted to reach out to him at some point because I needed a phone, but his sibling told me not to call him. Since then, I haven’t spoken to him,” she added.

Burial Disagreement Emerges After Singer’s Death

The grandmother’s insistence on burying Toluwanisings at his Ibadan residence comes amid calls from the singer’s paternal uncle for the burial to be put on hold.

The uncle reportedly wants the circumstances surrounding the gospel singer’s death to be investigated before the family proceeds with the burial.

The differing positions have raised questions about how the family will resolve the dispute over the arrangements.

While the grandmother has made her preference clear, the reported position of the singer’s wife and the uncle’s call for an investigation indicate that discussions over the burial may involve several competing concerns.

No final resolution to the disagreement was provided in the information available.

Toluwanisings, whose death on October 14 prompted reactions from those familiar with his gospel music career, is now at the centre of a family dispute over where he should be laid to rest.

As the discussions continue, the family faces the task of addressing the burial arrangements alongside the concerns raised about the circumstances of his death.
