The death of Nollywood actor Cjay Nwoks has taken an emotional turn after actress Sochima Ezeoke called out fellow actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday over the way she announced his passing.
Nkechi was among those who announced Cjay’s death. In an emotional video, she spoke about the actor’s passing and also said she would no longer release her anticipated movie, which was scheduled to drop at 5pm and featured Cjay as the lead actor.
But according to Sochima, the situation at the time was not as straightforward as the public announcement made it appear.
She claimed that Cjay was still being fought for when the announcement was made, saying those around him were moving from one hospital to another in search of oxygen and any possible way to keep him alive.
Sochima questioned why Nkechi allegedly left the hospital to record a video announcing his death while efforts to save him were still ongoing.
In her words:
"You drove out of the hospital just to make a video of you crying and pronouncing him dead! It's so unfair to the family!!!! While he was still struggling to stay alive! Kai! We have been to different hospitals looking for oxygen. Looking for a way! And you capitalised on it just to promote ur movie!"
Her complaint was not only about the timing of the announcement but also about the mention of the movie at a time when Cjay’s condition was reportedly still critical.
According to Sochima, those around the actor were focused on finding medical help and getting oxygen for him. She therefore felt that announcing his death before the situation had been fully settled was unfair to Cjay’s family.
The disagreement has brought attention to the difficult moments surrounding the actor’s final hours, particularly the different accounts of what was happening while attempts were being made to save him.
At the time of writing, Nkechi Blessing had not responded publicly to Sochima Ezeoke’s accusation.
