Cubana Chief Priest did not have the kind of experience he expected during his recent time in Benin, as he complained about the state of some roads and also recounted an uncomfortable incident at a hotel.
The nightlife personality spoke about the condition of roads in different parts of the city, particularly mentioning the Government Reserved Area (GRA) and the road around the Government House. From his description, the state of some of the roads left a strong impression on him.
He also brought up what happened to him at Protea Hotel, where he said he got trapped inside an elevator. For him, the combination of the road conditions and the hotel incident made his stay in Benin an unpleasant one.
He said:
“Benin Wey there GRA get bad roads, even there government house road Dey extremely bad, there elevator for protea hotel trap me inside, it was a total bad experience in Benin . Pray for Benin them really need help, Owerri get some bad roads oh especially streets but my Owerri be like Europe to Benin”
His comments were not limited to one particular road. He pointed to GRA and the Government House area as examples of places where he encountered roads he considered to be in very poor condition.
Interestingly, Cubana Chief Priest also brought Owerri into the conversation. He acknowledged that Owerri is far from perfect when it comes to roads, especially on some streets within the city. However, after what he experienced in Benin, he said the situation in Owerri looked considerably better to him.
That comparison formed one of the most striking parts of his account, as he described his home city as being almost like Europe when placed side by side with the Benin experience.
His reference to the Protea Hotel elevator added another dimension to the story. Getting stuck in an elevator can be an unsettling experience, and he included the incident among the reasons he described his visit as a “total bad experience.”
Rather than focusing on a single incident, his remarks touched on both infrastructure and his personal experience while in the city. His main complaint was directed at the condition of the roads, particularly in areas he expected to have better infrastructure.
For Benin residents, the comments also highlight the frustration that often comes with poor road conditions, especially when they affect major areas of a city. Roads around government facilities and prominent neighbourhoods can attract particular attention because of the expectations surrounding them.
Cubana Chief Priest ended his remarks with a plea for Benin, saying, “Pray for Benin them really need help.” He also made it clear that while Owerri has its own road problems, his experience in Benin had changed the way he viewed those problems.
His description ultimately came down to a simple comparison: Owerri may have bad roads, particularly on some streets, but after navigating Benin, he felt the roads back home looked far better.
