Nicki Minaj has called on celebrities, influencers and other public figures to pay more attention to reports of violence against Christians in Nigeria, questioning why the issue is not receiving more public attention.
The American rapper, who has a personal connection to Nigeria through her pastor and Nigerian fans, said she hopes more well-known personalities will use their platforms to speak about what is happening in the country.
Minaj explained that her interest in Nigeria is partly connected to her pastor, who is Nigerian, as well as the many Nigerian fans who support her music. She also expressed concern about what she described as a lack of attention to the treatment of Christians in the country.
She said:
"My pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him and I have a lot of Nigerian Barbz. Why isn't anyone making a big deal out of the brut@lity in which Christians are being treated in Nigeria? Sometimes when things aren't cool to talk about, people just don't talk about it. I'm hoping that more celebrities influencers and people will come aboard to talk about what is happening to Christians in Nigeria."
Her comments focus on the role public figures can play in bringing attention to issues affecting communities beyond their immediate surroundings. With large audiences across different countries, celebrities and influencers can help introduce important subjects to people who might otherwise know little about them.
For Minaj, the connection to Nigeria goes beyond music and entertainment. Her relationship with her Nigerian pastor and the support she receives from Nigerian fans have given her a personal reason to pay attention to developments in the country.
Her appeal also raises questions about the issues that receive attention from prominent personalities and those that receive less public discussion. She is encouraging more people with influence to speak about violence against Christians in Nigeria rather than allowing the subject to go unaddressed.
Nigeria has experienced various forms of insecurity, including attacks on communities, kidnappings and deadly violence in different parts of the country. The circumstances and motives behind these incidents vary, making it important to examine individual cases carefully while recognising the suffering of affected communities.
Minaj's remarks specifically highlight concerns about Christians and the violence they face. Her call is for more celebrities, influencers and other public figures to join conversations about the situation and help bring greater attention to those affected.
Whether other entertainment figures will respond to her appeal remains to be seen, but her message is clearly stated, she wants more people with influential platforms to speak about the violence affecting Christians in Nigeria.
