Peller’s disagreement with Jarvis over her younger sister, Divine, has brought attention to a bigger issue concerning his relationship with Jarvis’ family, as her alleged younger brother has accused him of trying to dictate how they should live.
The issue started after Peller suggested that he and Jarvis should take on a parental role in Divine’s life, including having a say in the person she eventually marries. Jarvis did not agree with the idea, making it clear that she was not comfortable with Peller taking that kind of position over her sister’s future.
For Jarvis’ alleged younger brother, however, the problem goes beyond the disagreement over Divine. He claims that Peller has tried to control him in the past and believes his sister is now facing a similar situation.
He argued that Peller’s marriage to Jarvis does not automatically give him authority over the other members of her family. While he acknowledged Peller’s position as his brother-in-law, he maintained that the relationship should not be an excuse for him to make decisions for everyone.
He also brought up the support Peller reportedly gives the family, insisting that receiving gifts or other forms of assistance should not mean that they have to surrender their independence or accept being told what to do.
In his words:
“I know peller is my brother in law but sometimes he needs to calm down. He likes to create problem for himself and the family, he firstly tried to control me then right now it's my sister, Divine. Him marrying Jarvis doesn’t give him the right to control the rest of the family. I don't understand what right he thinks he has. He got married to our sister and we're just Jarvis' siblings. The fact that he is giving us stuff doesn't mean he has the right to control us or tell us what to do...the first time I came out he was f0rc!ng me to do.”
His complaint is basically on the difference between supporting a family and having the authority to make decisions for its members. From his account, he believes Peller should understand that marrying Jarvis does not make him the decision-maker for her siblings.
The disagreement over Divine has therefore become part of a wider family dispute about personal boundaries, respect and who gets to make decisions about the lives of Jarvis’ younger siblings.
