Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges she faces away from the public eye, revealing that she sometimes retreats to her room to cry when life becomes overwhelming.

The award-winning actress made the revelation during an interview with CNN Africa's Larry Madowo, where she discussed the realities of balancing her demanding career, personal life and the pressure of constantly being in the public spotlight.

Despite her energetic personality and reputation as one of the most hardworking figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry, Funke Akindele admitted that she also experiences difficult moments when she struggles to keep her emotions under control.

She explained that whenever things become too much for her, she allows herself to express her feelings privately before finding the strength to carry on.

According to the actress, she sometimes locks herself in her room, cries and breaks down before eventually gathering herself and returning to her daily responsibilities.

Funke Akindele also addressed the challenges of having her personal relationships discussed publicly, particularly the scrutiny surrounding her marriages and separations.

She disclosed that public opinion sometimes makes her question her decisions, especially when she considers how people might judge her personal experiences.

However, she has gradually learnt to confront such concerns, accept her circumstances and move forward without allowing criticism to define her life.

The mother of two further stressed the importance of self-love and making time for family and loved ones, regardless of how demanding work becomes.

She noted that professional achievements should not come at the expense of personal happiness, adding that people must recognise the importance of looking after themselves.

Reflecting on her experiences over the years, Funke Akindele said she has become more conscious of her mental well-being and now makes it a priority. She explained that this change in attitude has helped her maintain a healthier approach to life and work.

The filmmaker also revealed that she is making deliberate efforts to pay more attention to her appearance and personal care.

She recalled a period when she was almost entirely focused on work, often going to the office in casual clothing without giving much thought to how she looked.

However, she is now more intentional about dressing well, maintaining her hair and taking time to feel good about herself.

Her latest comments offer a glimpse into the personal struggles behind her successful entertainment career and highlight her growing determination to achieve a healthier balance between work, family and self-care.
