A young Nigerian man is finding it difficult to come to terms with his current situation as he prepares to turn 27 in November, with unemployment, loneliness and his continued dependence on his parents leaving him worried about his future.
At an age when he hoped to have made more progress in life, the young man says he has yet to secure a job or establish a source of income. He still lives with his parents and depends on them for basic necessities, a situation that has become increasingly difficult for him to accept.
His struggles are not limited to finances. He also says he has no close friends, a romantic partner or much of a social life, leaving him with few people to turn to when things get difficult.
In a video, he gave a glimpse of his living conditions by showing the room where he sleeps. He explained that the bed and pillows in the room were provided by his parents, highlighting how much of his present life still depends on their support.
For the young man, the situation has become a source of deep frustration. Rather than feeling excited about his approaching birthday, he appears troubled by the thought of getting older without achieving the level of independence he wants.
He described how he has been feeling, saying;
"I feel like my life is wasting away. I'm isolated. I feel like I'm lagging behind so much".
His concerns appear to stem from more than the fact that he is unemployed. Being without an income has left him unable to support himself, while the lack of close relationships has added to his sense of isolation.
He also explained that he has tried to work his way out of his situation without relying on others to find a solution for him. However, those efforts have not produced the results he expected, leaving him discouraged about what to do next.
Despite wanting to change his circumstances, he admitted that he was struggling to identify where to begin. The lack of progress has made it difficult for him to remain hopeful, especially as another birthday approaches.
Turning 27 has seemingly become a reminder of the things he wishes were different in his life. He wants to become independent, earn his own money and have meaningful relationships, but he has yet to find a clear path towards achieving those goals.
His situation also reflects the pressure some young adults experience when financial difficulties prevent them from moving out of their family homes or building the lives they envisioned for themselves.
For now, the young man remains uncertain about his next move. He has expressed his frustration over trying to make progress without seeing much change, leaving him questioning how to move forward as he approaches a new chapter in his life.
